چکیده

The square of a graph G, denoted by G, is obtained from G by putting an edge between two distinct vertices whenever their distance is two. Then G is called a square root of G. Deciding whether a given graph has a square root is known to be NP-complete, even if the root is required to be a split graph, that is, a graph in which the vertex set can be partitioned into a stable set and a clique. We give a wide range of polynomial time solvable cases for the problem of recognizing if a given graph is the square of some special kind of split graph. To the best of our knowledge, our result properly contains all previously known such cases. Our polynomial time algorithms are build on a structural investigation of graphs that admit a split square root that is 3-sun-free, and may pave the way toward a dichotomy theorem for recognizing squares of (3-sun-free) split graphs.

Chromatic Harmonic Indices and Chromatic Harmonic Polynomials of Certain Graphs

In the main this paper introduces the concept of chromatic harmonic polynomials denoted, $H^chi(G,x)$ and chromatic harmonic indices denoted, $H^chi(G)$ of a graph $G$. The new concept is then applied to finding explicit formula for the minimum (maximum) chromatic harmonic polynomials and the minimum (maximum) chromatic harmonic index of certain graphs. It is also applied to split graphs and ce...

An Approach to Hadwiger's Conjecture through Squares of Chordal Graphs

Hadwiger’s conjecture states that for every graph G, χ(G) ≤ η(G), where χ(G) is the chromatic number and η(G) is the size of the largest clique minor in G. In this work, we show that to prove Hadwiger’s conjecture in general, it is sufficient to prove Hadwiger’s conjecture for the class of graphs F defined as follows: F is the set of all graphs that can be expressed as the square graph of a spl...

Using Latin Squares to Color Split Graphs

An edge-coloring of a graph is an assignment of colors to its edges such that no adjacent edges have the same color. A split graph is a graph whose vertex set admits a partition into a stable set and a clique. Split graphs have been introduced by Földes and Hammer [4] and it is a well-studied class of graphs. However, the problem of deciding the chromatic index of any split graph remains unsolv...

Recognizing Perfect 2-Split Graphs

A graph is a split graph if its vertices can be partitioned into a clique and a stable set. A graph is a k-split graph if its vertices can be partitioned into k sets, each of which induces a split graph. We show that the strong perfect graph conjecture is true for 2-split graphs and we design a polynomial algorithm to recognize a perfect 2-split graph.

A Unified Approach for Design of Lp Polynomial Algorithms

By summarizing Khachiyan's algorithm and Karmarkar's algorithm forlinear program (LP) a unified methodology for the design of polynomial-time algorithms for LP is presented in this paper. A key concept is the so-called extended binary search (EBS) algorithm introduced by the author. It is used as a unified model to analyze the complexities of the existing modem LP algorithms and possibly, help ...
